Bridgestone RE-01R vs RE-11 Video!

Here is a video side by side comparsion of the Bridgestones RE-01R vs RE-11 on the same track(Tsukuba) with the same driver(Keichi Tsuchiya) . You can see that the RE-11 is a faster tire by 1.04 secs! Still no word on when the RE-11 is going to come to North America, but it shows lots of promise. The street tire battle is just warming up!

Canon 1D MKIII vs Nikon D3 Autofocus Showdown!

If you have heard the autofocus in the 1D MKIII has been troublesome since the day it came out. But the lastest firmware has shown a 9% improvement. From the latest test from the nice people at ProPhoto says Canon 1D MKIII out performs the Nikon D3. Read the rest of the review HERE!

Toyo R1R real world technical specs!

Once again BrainGT has very nicely done some measurements on the Toyo R1R’s. As he is using the Toyo R1R’s in his STS2 Honda CRX in the SCCA National Tour. Look at all is hard work for everyone advantage:

195/50-15 - minimal tread left = 22.75″ diameter
195/50-15 - almost full tread = 23.0″
205/45-16 - 3/32 tread = 23.0″

String method, and the full tread 195 marks matched up exactly to the marks on the 16″ shaved to 3/32nds.

As for weight of the R1Rs:
195/50-15 minimal tread on 15×7 rpf1 = 25.8 lbs
195/50-15 full tread on 15×7 rpf1 = 29.4 lbs
205/45-16 3/32 tread on 16×7.5 ssr = 29.4 lbs

It was very strange the the full tread 195/50-15 was exactly the same diameter and weight as the 3/32 205/45-16. I checked them multiple times.

Compared to the Bridgestones:
195/50-15 RE-01R almost full tread on 15×6.5 konig helium = 32.4 lbs
205/45-16 RE-01R 2/32nd tread on 16×7.5 = 30.2 lbs

R1R Tread width:
~8″ for 205/45-16 R1R on a 16×7.5″ and ~7 7/8″ for 195/50-15 R1R on a 15×7″ (measurements = +/- 1/16″ depending on how you judge treadwidth, but the relative to the 15″ 16″ is 1/8″ wider. I am measuring with a string, so I don’t think a wider 15″ wheel will make a huge difference)

AutoX Test & Tune May 04/08

Well the first run in the car at the local autox was great. Too bad that i’m so rusty! Boo! But i didn’t capture tons of pix. I do have a few that i really liked! Specially the Nissan Sentra in motion with rear tire stopped!

Canon 1Ds MKIII and 1D MKIII firmware updates!

Canon 1Ds MKIII firmware:
This firmware update (Version 1.1.2) incorporates the following improvements.

1. Includes the following new features that were frequently requested by customers to the new firmware.
1. Direct selection of AF points by the Multi-controller is added to C.Fn III-9.
2. Alternate access to Exposure compensation is added to C.Fn IV-3.
2. Improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

The Version 1.1.2 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.6. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.1.2, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Canon 1D MKIII firmware:
This firmware update (Version 1.2.3) incorporates the following improvements.

1. Includes the following new features that were frequently requested by customers to the new firmware.
1. Direct selection of AF points by the Multi-controller is added to C.Fn III-9.
2. Alternate access to Exposure compensation is added to C.Fn IV-3.
3. With the camera’s External Speedlite control menu, Flash function settings can be used to set the Wireless setting and Zoom.
2. Improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

The Version 1.2.3 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.1.3. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.2.3, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Horrific crash at Le Mans Series at Mozna 2008.

Stephane Ortelli 38yrs of age from Monaco has a horrific crash at Monza. From the crash Stephane Ortelli only came away with a broken ankle. Not too bad considering how the prototype gets airborne and tumbles over and over. Watch and be amazed!
