Canon 1D MKIV New ISO performance images by Jeff Ascough



Jeff Ascough is UK based photographer that is known for not using flash for any of his shoots. Looks like he’s been using 1-series bodies for quite awhile and really familiar with them. Looks like Jeff has the camera 24hrs before his shoots and didn’t have alot of time setting up the camera, but its not much different from his 1DsMKIII. Shots from the Canon 1DMKIV they are stunning in low light!

Autofocus performance is stunning. There is no other word for it. Canon have spent a lot of time and energy on this aspect of the camera and it shows. I was shooting in horrific lighting for AF systems, and it just performed faultlessly. I used the center point and the back button for focusing as this is what I have become use to over the past 12 months with the 5DMKII, and like I said it was faultless. I didn’t try AI servo mode (as I always use One shot) or any of the other AF options (some of which have been borrowed from the 7D). Source:[Jeff Ascough/Canonrumors]

Canon 1D MKIV Power Hungry Camera?



I’m not too sure how many Canon shooters out there have read the 1D MKIV white pages, but seems like the new 1D MKIV could be power hungry. If you look at the CIPA standards for previous 1D:

Trackmasters v1.8 by Trackaroo

Trackaroo has released there newest release for there data acquisition for the Android phone. If your into racing, autoX, or HPDE and have a Android phone, you should be using this apps. I haven’t compared to a gps acquisition from like of maxQ or Trackmate, but for $5 you can’t go wrong.

Trackmaster provides the following features:

* Record the following track data: position, speed, acceleration, altitude, bearing, absolute time, split times, elapsed times, and lap times.
* Record your track data using multiple trigger modes: immediate, by movement, delayed, or by first split marker.
* View your lap times and split times with graphical analysis on your phone.
* Replay your track data instantly on your phone.

Nikon D3s & 70-200 f2.8 VRII Review!

Well this has to be the few reviews that i have seen with the Nikon D3s and Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRII at the sametime. Webshooter.Tv has some nice samples between D3, D3s, 70-200 f2.8 VR, and 70-200 f2.8 VRII. You can see a straight comparison how much of a difference the new body and lens can make! The absence of vignetting around the corners of the frame is the most noticeable difference I note on the VRII. Vignette control was set to LOW on the D3S just as it was on my usual D3 + 70-200 VR combo and I saw no vignette at f/2.8 or 3.2. While I didn’t have a chance to test D3S with VR at the three weddings that I shot (carrying one 70-200 is heavy enough), a later controlled test proved that the disappearance of vignette has nothing to with D3S or its firmware but purely by the VR II’s optical brilliance. You will see that when I couple the VR with D3 or D3S, the vignette reappears.

As you can see from the image above that the new Nikon D3s and Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRII seems to be a clear winner!

Nikon D300s In depth review!



Could the new D300s be better than older sibling D300? With the ’s’ model in the introduction of video that first came on the D90 finds it way to the D300s. With the new features Video,Slient shutter, and 7fps (up from 6) is this going to be enough to make users switch from D300 to D300s?

The Nikon D300 made quite an impact when it was first launched – enough to prompt us to conclude: ‘There’s simply no better semi-professional digital SLR on the market.’ And, in many respects, it is still the camera to beat in that class – nearly two years later and it is still able to command essentially the same price as at launch (though the strong Yen has pushed all prices up). Anouncement today by YouTube stating next week 1080p HD is coming! Woot this some good news! I do hope have 720p will look better now. Another good thing if you had uploaded any of your videos in 1080 they will re-encoded them to 1080p for you!

Canon 100mm Macro f2.8L Review!



What seems to be ages Canon’s 100mm Macro never was a L-series lens. It has all the right formula to be one…Fast, sharp, and image quality! In 2009 Canon final came out with the L-series version with the new hybrid IS. The good people over at DPreview have come out with there in depth review.

Canon makes some quite specific claims for the effectiveness of its new IS system, and it’s worth looking at these in detail. The stabilizer is supposed to give a 4 stop advantage at longer focus distances, dropping to 3 stops at 0.5x magnification and 2 stops at full 1x magnification. The first of these specs is pretty much par for the course for Canon’s current IS lenses, but even with the Hybrid system it’s clear that the level of stabilization at close distances is expected to be relatively low (this despite Canon’s publicity material claiming that it ‘enables photographers to capture stunning close-up shots without the need for a tripod’). So the question potential buyers will surely be asking is whether the blend of features offered by the new lens is sufficiently compelling to justify buying it over the older, but well-regarded non-stabilized 100mm macro. – DPreview

Leica X1 Preview!



Seems like today more and more people are wanting more from a pocket sized cameras. Leica is working hard to bring this to the masses. The Leica X1 has a good platform to start on:

Canon 7D highly recommended!



Seems like the New Canon 7D has been a very highly recommended camera all across the board. Engadget has taken a look at many sites and seems like there is a good consensus, the Canon 7D is a winner! Canon 7D Firmware 1.1.0 Double Trouble Fixed!



Sorry for the lack of updates last week, i was gone on vacation. While i was gone looks like Canon released a firmware update 1.1.0 to fix the double imaging problem. I still never had seen this in the images that i had taken, but its happening cause Canon has put out a firmware update! Link to the firmware update after the jump.

Phase One Capture One Pro 5!!!

Today Phase One released there brand new Capture One 5 Pro! Capture One is one of the best raw editors in the business, i rememeber when Phase One offered a glimpse of what the future holds for RAW editors when they had release Capture One 4. The interface of 4 looked miles ahead of 3, but sadly it was never a pro version! Phase One had to address this and they released 4 years later and now 5! Here are some of the new features:

Live Preview Enhanced

Handle large volume shoots even faster with new and enhanced workflow accelerators. New functionality includes improved session handling and an improved importer, which makes import more simple and intuitive as well as an improved progress indication, which provides a quick visual overview of application tasks.

Canon 7D Double Trouble???

The word on the street that there is problem with Canon’s 7D where it will show during burst mode it will show the preceding frame. I have not seen this myself when shooting with the 7D, but i have not done alot of shooting with this camera.

Phenomenon
In images captured by continuous shooting, and under certain conditions, barely noticeable traces of the immediately preceding frame may be visible. This phenomenon is not noticeable in an image with optimal exposure. The phenomenon may become more noticeable if a retouching process such as level compensation is applied to emphasize the image. Android 2.0 Eclair Official!!!

Well Android folks here it is Eclair is official! Just seems like not too long ago Google had announced Donut aka 1.6, and today they announced 2.0 aka Eclair! What the some of the new features:

Windows 7 x Canon

Well looks like if you own a Canon products and just recently got Windows 7, are you wondering what is compatible? Canon released a 16 page pdf stating will and will not work! More info after the jump. Source:[Imaging Resource]

The version of EOS Utility bundled with the EOS‐1D Mark II, EOS‐1D Mark II N, EOS‐1Ds Mark II, EOS 20D, EOS 20Da and EOS 5D meanwhile supports Windows 7 in 32-bit mode only, along with the somewhat cryptic note “not recognized when using the standard function of OS”. Pentex Korejanai x K-x Limited Edition Camera!

Well what can i say about this limited edition Pentax K-x camera, other than its pretty….colorful? Well Pentax release this camera only Japan, and only 100 are produced. If you are wanting to get your hands on this K-x your pretty much going to have to find someone in Japan to get it for you. With such a limited run chances of you paying retail is going to be slim. Canon 1D MKIV High ISO Sample Images!

Well here are some samples images from Canon’s newest offering 1D MKIV! I do not know if this is pre-production firmware or production firmware, but either way its some high ISO images from the MKIV! From these sample images i would say that its about 1 stop better than 5D MKII, but i can’t give a true answer to that…I’m just saying comparing to my MKII to these images.
